Pottery Project the 1992 SC Archives and History Historical Preservation Grant for Magnolia Dale House Museum and the 1993 Old Law Building Restoration projects She obtained state and federal grant awards for the restoration of these landmarks and others in Edgefield County As society president Mrs Rainsford played a leading role in the establishment of fundraising endeavors including showcase houses and concerts in historic places within the county Also as president Mrs Rainsford led the society in receiving numerous awards including the Outstanding Progress in the Revitalization of the Edgefield County Historial Society the Achievement of Excellence in the Preservation and lnterpre-taiion of Edgefield County History the Outstanding Special Event and Historical Facility and the Tourism Development Award from the SC Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism On June 23 1997 the Board of the Edgefield County Historical Society as a result of Mrs Rainsford's "demonstrated visionary creative and effective leadership as president of the society" passed a resolution in recognition of her many contributions to her community county state and nation The resolution stated that the Old Edgefield District Museum hereinafter be known as the 'Joanne Rainsford Heritage and that an appropriate plaque so designating it be erected in the Mrs Rainsford served on the executive boards of the Edgefield United Way the Olde Edgefield Trade Association the Edgefield Community Development Association the Edgefield County Heritage Corridor Committee and was appointed by Gov Beasley to serve on the Board of Directors of the Legacy Trust Fund Within these boards Mrs Rainsford affected the community and economic development of downtown Edgefield and neighboring communities Citing Mrs Rainsford as a and totally committed the Edgefield Community Development Association named her the Grand Marshal of the 1996 Edgefield Christmas Parade In 1996 as chairman of the Edge-field County Heritage Corridor Commiitee and as chairman of the SC Heritage Corridor Region II board she received the Partner in Tourism and Travel Promotion Award from the Old 96 District Tourism Commission for outstanding leadership in tourism development within South Carolina She was also appointed by Sen Thurmond as a SC delegate to the White House Conference on Tourism Mrs Rainsford was an avid reader a member of the International Reading Association and held membership in the Edgefield Book Club She was also a member of the Village Gardeners Gardens Club and the Edgefield First Baptist
