FAQ

How do you fix liquid chili?

To thicken a liquidy chili, you can add ingredients like masa harina (corn flour), cornstarch, or even crushed tortilla chips. You can also turn on the saute function and let the chili simmer to help evaporate excess liquid. The saute function does get hot, so be sure to watch and stir often to keep from burning.

What is the secret to perfect chili?

Achieving perfection often means allowing the chili to cook slowly, allowing the flavors to meld together over time. A mix of spices like cumin, chili powder, and paprika, and using a combination of meats can significantly amplify the taste and contribute to achieving the perfect chili.

What is a secret ingredient to making the best chili?

While it varies, a common secret ingredient is unsweetened cocoa powder. It adds depth and richness to the chili, enhancing its flavor profile. I don’t use it in this recipe (however, you could) I do use it in my Cincinnati Chili recipe.

Instant Pot Chili Recipe Tips

  • If you don’t have dietary limitations, I would serve this chili with the world’s best cornbread.
  • If you are looking to cut a few calories and fat, try ground turkey.
  • We sometimes change it up and use black beans instead of kidney beans. I do believe the chili beans are a must for this homemade chili.
  • Omit the cayenne for a perfectly kid-friendly, mild chili that’s not spicy.
  • Or, make it hotter with extra cayenne and chili powder – or a little hot sauce at the table so everyone’s happy.
  • We like our chili with toppings like cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions or chives, and cilantro. Crackers or tortilla chips are both delicious with it.
  • Lean ground beef makes a less greasy chili, or try ground turkey or a vegetarian version instead.
  • Like most of my soup recipes, pressure cooker chili reheats and freezes beautifully! Seal it up and keep it in the refrigerator for three days, or freeze it for up to two months.
  • The larger your pressure cooker, the bigger the batch! Got a large pot? Double the recipe for a potluck.
